Elder Ministries
The Elder Ministries Commission Seeks
1.
To provide for, and oversee, the training and preparation of Ruling Elders for service in our churches as Pulpit Supply Preachers and Commissioned Pastors(CREs) in compliance with Commission On Ministry policies.
2.
To provide for continuing education opportunities for REs (ruling elders), QREs (qualified ruling elders) and CREs (commissioned ruling elders); and
3.
To actively promote this program and recruit persons to become QREs and/or CREs.
How to Get Started
Answering God’s Call to become a Qualified Ruling Elder eligible to serve a church as a Commissioned Pastor begins in your local session. After a person has served at least one year as a Ruling Elder on session, the session can recommend them to be enrolled in the QRE/CRE program. Once the Elder Ministries Commission received that recommendation, the commission works with the applicant to review and recommend the needed course work, and complete other requirements.
When sending paperwork to the committee, it is best to send them by email as attachments. However, if using the US Mail, please keep a copy for your records then mail them to the Presbytery office ATTN: Elder Ministries at the address below.
Course Work Options
Most interested persons in our Presbytery take the online courses offered though Union Presbyterian Seminary’s Pathways to Leadership Program; however, there are programs offered at other Presbyterian seminaries.
NOTE: Please verify with the Elder Ministries the courses that you need before enrolling in a program.
NOTE: It is very important to enroll with Elder Ministries to complete the other steps that are required.
