#1 Workshops – 10:15 – 11:30
1. Soul Music: From Heart to Hands – This workshop is a
chance to listen to the music in our heart which defines the
actions of our hands. We will explore a variety of
methods/practices to stimulate and complement our inward
spiritual journeys. Leader: Rev. Louie Andrews – A pastor
for 9 years at Graves Memorial in Clinton, Louie is now at
Rockfish PC, Virginia. He continues to read Howard Thurman,
Elie Wiesel and Walter Brueggemann while listening to Guy
Clark, Steve Earle and Emmy Lou Harris.
2. Serving Those Who Serve – Discover ways and resources to
equip your church to better serve military veterans of all
types. Leader: Chpl. Chad McCain – Navy Chaplain serving at
Marine Corps Air Station, New River in Jacksonville, NC.
3. 2012 VBS and Beyond – Let’s survey a couple of VBS
options (Operation Overboard – Cokesbury & Babylon – GROUP)
along with a presentation of ways to connect your summer VBS
with ongoing activities of the church & community. Leader:
Rev. Pam Taber – supply Minster for Coastal Carolina’s Smith
Presbyterian Church and a certified Christian Educator.
4. Faith Formation, Not Just Information: Small Group
Resources – If we wish to move our Christian education
beyond “information sharing” to “faith formation,” let’s
explore resources available in Presbytery’s Resource Center
and beyond to equip churches and families to become the
heartbeat of faith formation. We’ll share curriculum &
studies for children, youth and adults. Leader: Kaye Bledsoe
– Presbytery’s Associate for Resource Services
5. INspired OUTreach: Churches Doing Mission – Inside and
outside, our churches are reaching out to share the gospel
in ways that are truly inspiring. Come listen to a panel
representing churches of all sizes as they share
outreach/mission projects & make connections with churches
involved in projects of interest to you. Leader: Rev. Nancy
Gladden - is Presbytery’s Mission Coordinator for the East
Community.
#2 Workshops – 11:45-1:00
1. Your 2 Cent-A-Meal at Work – Discover the variety of ways
your offering helps fight hunger. Leader: Elder Bryant
Holmes – is the chair of Presbytery’s Hunger Committee and a
member at Westminster PC, Fayetteville.
2. With Voice & Hands: Youth Music/Mission Ministry – Learn
how music and mission combine to effectively promote faith
formation in our youth. Leader: Sharon Miller – is Music
Director at St. Andrews-Covenant PC, Wilmington.
3. Stewards of God’s Creation: Congregations Responding – In
this session we will look at the reasons people of faith
should car about the environment and explore ways to help
congregations respond to this call. Let’s examine church
practices and discuss ways to encourage members and leaders
to make responsible choices and Creation Care policy.
Leader: Lisa Green – is a member of Graves Memorial PC,
Clinton where she chairs the Earth Care committee.
4. Your Inner Creativity Found Outside – The Church these
days needs creativity more than ever! With a common “We’ve
never done it that way before” mentally that permeates our
churches; we’ve lost a bit of that spark that used to set us
apart as an education-focused denomination. This refreshing
workshop will look outside the norms to give you tools and a
new perspective to discover or rediscover the inner
creativity that is in you! Leader: Rev. Jeremy Wilhelmi – is
Director at Monroe Camp and Retreat Center. Jeremy is
convinced that second only to the family, camp is the single
most powerful source for youth development. Jeremy’s call is
to revitalize Monroe Camp to be a beacon of that message.
We look forward to seeing you on February 11, 2012 at
Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church, Clinton, NC.

Spice Award in Christian Education
Presbytery's 2011 SPICE Award was presented at Leadership
School to Community Presbyterian Church for their
CALL (Community Assisting Learning Language) program.
This is a year-round program to prepare under-achieving
Hispanic children for success in school through weekly
tutoring during the school year and during the summer;
attending VBS and going on field trips. A major new part of
the program is tutoring the moms of the children. The church
received an award certificate and $100 to help support the
program.

Older Adult Picnic ~
May, 2011
“A Celebration of Life Well-Lived”

Older Adults Recognized at the Picnic
”. The
theme for the 2011 guide is centered around
“Intergenerational Ministries”. You could have a week of
activities featuring interaction between youth and older
adults, such as computer “geeks” teaching seniors how to
surf the web! Or talks on how grandparents are raising
grandchildren, while some volunteer as mentors to
disadvantaged youngsters. What about elementary students
reading stories to members of a senior center? You get the
picture! How ever you decide to celebrate, we hope this
guide will be of service to you.
The PCUSA church-planning calendar designates the
first week in May as Older Adult Week.
